We believe that the well-being of sons and daughters will improve if we restore a biblical model of fatherhood to protect the integrity of how God designed the family. We must meet fathers where they are and help them see the importance of having God as the center of their lives. Compass Ministries is dedicated to partnering with families, churches, ministries, private schools, home school initiatives, Christian business owners and other organizations in order to build strong families through effective fathering.”
Specifically, Compass provides a “relationship lab” environment that is relevant, radical and real! Breakaway coaches, volunteers and team leaders are prepared to not only focus on father / child connecting issues, but also prepared to look for opportunities to present the Gospel in a relational way. We will strategically align ourselves with local churches so that new Christians can quickly be plugged into the right church environment, if they desire. We will also make available various tools, resources and contacts so that a bi-lateral communication link may be established. Our desire is to stay connected with fathers and their children through relationships as they walk along the road to Jesus Christ.
The most effective model for Compass Ministries is to rent or lease from high-quality camp or retreat facilities. We partner with organizations that provide the best staff, accommodations, amenities and tools in order to help fathers create memorable moments with their son(s) or daughter(s). Our guest speakers, content partners and program teams set the standard by which others will be measured. Our “mobile ministry” provides flexibility and efficiency in that we can locate to wherever there is a fathering need throughout the country, and we are not limited to only one property with huge overhead expenses and large capital fundraising campaigns.
In 2007 and 2008 we experienced God increasing a movement through the military families. We believe that the war has worn many military families. Military dads need a steady life partner to help them to keep their compass needle pointing North. Military dads are sharing with us that they are in need of coaching, encouragement, mentoring, fellowship, resources and spiritual battle buddies that will come along side and do life with them. Military Chaplains have found Compass to be a great complimentary partner to their soldier ministry efforts, and in particular, to meet military dads where they are with their sons and daughters. This has lead in part, to the creation of Varsity Dads.
Varsity Dads is an experiential process where seasoned and spiritually mature fathers (Varsity Dads) facilitate the development of younger fathers (JV Dads) through life-on-life interactions. More than just a men's rally or a Bible study, Varsity Dads provides men with a legacy building strategy for devleoping a plan for Godly fathering. Through one-on-one structured coaching sessions and an on-going small group format of three to five JV Dads, a Varsity Dad is positioned to be a life coach, mentor, advocate and friend to younger dads. Varsity Dads are selected and trained based on their life experiences, Christian walk, Godly character and desire to make a difference in the next generation of fathers.
For 2009 our focus for Varisty Dads is to help seasoned dads to walk alongside JV Dads in pursuit of authentic manhood as modeled by Jesus, and directed by the Word of God. Additional efforts will focus on Man House gatherings, where fathers can come together on a regular basis during dad only sessions to experience relevant and radical community. We want to be an equipping and networking resource for fathers. This environment will further support the Varsity Dad process.
The Compass model also provides the greatest operational opportunity for future growth and expansion.
